MRSA Infections Down Significantly in US Hospitals

Health care facilities, especially hospitals, are frequent breeding grounds for bacteria that are increasingly resistant to antibiotics. In the United States, more than one million resistant infections are linked to at least 100,000 hospital deaths every year. One of the most prevalent of these superbugs is MRSA, a drug-resistant staph bacterium. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) said countries should take steps to prevent the spread of such resistant bacteria. But while MRSA is at epidemic proportions worldwide, it is declining in hospitals in the United States. VOA's Melinda Smith reports in a report voiced by Carol Pearson.
