The Government Employees Pension Fund, the GEPF, has again tried to assure its members and beneficiaries that their pension savings are safe as government mulls its options to save SAA. The GEPF administers more than a trillion and a half rands worth of government employee pensions funds and it uses the Public Investment Corporation of PIC to manage the investing of these funds. It comes after Finance Minister, Malusi Gigaba, told COSATU yesterday that using funds from the PIC was still one of the options that government was considering to bail out the beleaguered state airline. Reiterating what it said in May, the GEPF says it has not been approached about recapitalising SAA. Meanwhile, some public sector trade unions support the idea. But others say HANDS OFF.
