Nostalrius' shutdown means a revisit into legacy servers?

I rant a bit on the Nostalrius shutdown and what legacy servers mean for Blizzard and the players.
I'm against private servers themselves, but the conversation regarding legacy servers is worth addressing. I feel that there's a lot of emotional investment behind the backing of legacy servers, exacerbated by Nost players who have lost their progression as well as their community.
But what should Blizzard's reaction be?
