Senator Flake wants 'real' FBI investigation into Kavanaugh claims

(1 Oct 2018) The Arizona Republican senator who is at the center of the explosive Supreme Court nomination says he is pushing for the FBI to conduct "a real investigation" into allegation of sexual assault facing nominee Brett Kavanaugh. U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake said he and his staff have had numerous discussions with the White House counsel's office and colleagues to ensure "that any current credible allegation that has been made is fully investigated." Flake was speaking at an event in Boston as he trekked across New England while exploring a possible run for president. Dozens of sex abuse survivors and women rights activists rallied near Flack's event in a bid to push him to vote against Kavanaugh's nomination. Flake's comments come as the White House insisted it's not "micromanaging" the new one-week review of decades-old allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Three days ago, Flake single-handedly delayed Kavanaugh's confirmation proceedings by insisting on an FBI investigation as a condition for his support.
