The Materials Science Research Rack-1 (MSRR-1) will be used for basic materials research in the microgravity environment of the International Space Station. Having the MSRR-1 on board the space station will allow astronauts to study material types like metals, alloys, polymers, semiconductors, ceramics, crystals, and glasses, in order to discover new ways to use these existing materials and new or improved materials for use here on Earth.
