This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. A reflection about the changing face of technology and the its influence on out personalities. Dr. Wadhwa speaks about how her concepts of technology is now obsolete and just remain as stories that she would probably tell the future generations. Dr. Bimlesh Wadhwa, an educator since 1990, has spent most of her life in or around the classroom. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore. For the past 24 years she has been a lecturer, an academic supervisor, a curriculum developer, and an academic counselor, in University education. In each of these roles, she has liked and worked to get to know her students, show them how much they matter and support them in their learning and growth. Her students fondly call her Mia, which in Italian means 'mine'. Mia believes in cultivating creativity and acknowledges multiple types of intelligence among her students. Her perspective on curriculum design and classroom teaching is informed by technological trends and front-line experience with students. She is passionate about ‘tech for children’ and has conducted several workshops to introduce programming to school children. She believes that when used intentionally and appropriately, technology and interactive media are effective tools to support learning and development. She is also an active participant in several ‘women in tech’ groups, being interested in interacting with women in technology. Her recent research on how gender affects technology excites her. She believes that we need to inclusively accommodate and integrate different perspectives in shaping our modern day technology. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
