Original Description

LAST-EVER INSTALLMENT! Part 6 of 6...In the YouTube series finale, we return once again to the year 2005 as the Fairmont State University Stage Band (now known as the "FSU Jazz Ensemble") presents the first concert of their 2005-2006 season, which was the first stage band concert directed by Dr. Valarie Huffman. Included in this installment: "Besame Mucho" composed by Consuelo Velazquez and excerpts from Glenn Miller's "A String of Pearls" (see "Commentary" below).

Be sure to check out additional installments of this concert which was presented live on November 16, 2005 in the Turley Center Ballroom on the Main Campus.

COMMENTARY: I was greatly disappointed when I discovered that a large portion of the concert's closing number "A String of Pearls" was missing from the master video (the concert was over an hour and the MiniDV ran out of space), and had planned to cut the small remaining portion in editing. However, since this turned out to be the last FSU video that I'm going to produce for YouTube, I decided to turn a "curse into a blessing" by using the small portion I did have to segue into a "'WONDER'-fully blockbuster" farewell to both my FSU video series on YouTube and my years in band in general. I dedicate all of the videos in this series to my late grandmother, who passed away three days prior and was buried on the morning before this concert was recorded.

NOTE: I was unable to locate a program for this concert, so the band roster and song listings had to be recreated ENTIRELY from memory (which is not an easy task for something that happened three years ago!). If I have inadvertantly omitted someone or mixed up a song title or composer (I wikipedia'd them, so these could be erroneous!), please let me know...I can't re-edit the video, but I can put the changes in the video description.

Thanks and enjoy!
