California Ramblers – Where’s My Sweetie Hiding? Foxtrot /Charleston (Little, Finch / Malie, Britt) Columbia 1924 (USA)

NOTE: It’s one of the hottest American jazz/dance bands of the Roaring 1920s, which was active in the East Coast (the members were fom Ohio and  “Californian” in their name was merely a commercial trick).  Founded by the banjoist Ray Kitchenmann in 1921, it later was taken over by influential music manager Ed Kirkeby. They quickly went to stardom after their contract with Columbia label was signed in 1924, athough they also recorded for other labels under about a hundred of various aliases! (the best remembered are The Little Ramblers, The Goofus Five, The Golden Gate Orchestra, The Vagabonds and the Varsity Eight). Today, the California Ramblers – with their hot nerve sound and perfect jazzed-up instrumental solos - are considered as the quintessential white dance band of the 1920s. Many later famous jazzmen started with the California Rambler, to name only Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Jack Pettis, Miff Mole  or Adrian Rollini.  Despite their success, the California Ramblers’ time in the limelight was brief, with several of their members going on to bigger and better things by decade's end.
