(15 Nov 2018) Residents living in Grays, a town in the English county of Essex, expressed on Thursday views of disillusion, concern and confusion on the proposed Brexit deal and what it meant for the country. Market vendor Orlando Wright said he thought the government was in a shambles and said that Britain's previous prime minister, David Cameron, had taken a gamble on Brexit and it had not worked. He added that it was "alright making trade deals with Canada and New Zealand and all these different countries" but stressed that as Britain was part of Europe "why don't we get on with our partners what we've got in Europe?" Retired 70-year-old local resident Norman Ingham said he voted for the UK to leave the EU as he felt the UK had lost control of it's destiny. He said , however, he did not think Brexit would end the way people had hoped it would when they voted. Another market trader, Kevin Greenwood, said he wanted the Brexit deal to be put in layman's terms so that he could properly understand what was being decided. Thurrock, the borough in which Grays is located, has a population of 166,000 and has a large multicultural population with 19 percent identifying as non-white British. Seventy two percent of the voters in Thurrock voted to Leave in the EU referendum, the second highest in the country.
