This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Appalled and emboldened by the poor quality food she saw being offered to her distracted and unknowing students while she was a substitute teacher, Lady Moon responded in the way she knows best-- with song. Lady Moon, aka Ngonda Badila, is a singer/songwriter and youth instructor of the arts at Manhattan Youth. Brooklyn based, born in Paris, and raised in Hudson with a traditional background in African dance and musical theater, Lady Moon currently plays solo with her autoharp, leads Lady Moon & The Eclipse (an Afro Soul band she created), and sings backup for Astro Soul band King Holiday and Khmer- American artist Bochan. She was featured on BET’s 106 & Park Wild Out Wednesday music countdown after winning Hunter’s Got Talent. After moving to NYC in 2011 to study music at Hunter College, Lady Moon has performed in numerous venues in the city, including Mercury Lounge, Pianos, The Bitter End, and The Bowery Electric. Lady Moon is known for having a very versatile vocal range and style with sincere and heartfelt lyrics. | @1LadyMoon, facebook.com/ladymooneclipse About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
