But our history shows what we can achieve if we don’t give up. Ten years ago, three-quarters of top colleges rated by FIRE for free speech earned the worst, “red light” rating. Now that number is less than one-third of schools, and FIRE’s work has benefitted over 7 million students. FIRE's conferences, internships, campus visits, and educational programs are teaching this generation of students about their rights and why free speech is so important for all of us. But there is still so much more to do. Until every student in the country understands the deep philosophy and everyday value of a world in which speech is free, our work is not done. The next phase of FIRE's work will require creative, inspiring, and bold approaches. We can only do this with your help.
