Music of Ancient Gods Russian balalaika has only 3 strings. They say it's a simplified version of another ancient instrument called Gusli. Gusli were prohibited by Christians that conquered Russia, so the instrument was banned. Balalaika became the solving of that problem. But that is only official theory, in fact we don't know why did they ban Gusli, maybe because it was some energy calibration device, maybe because it reminded people about their past.
