Fire chief says military could help tackle Saddleworth Moor blaze

Families who live near Saddleworth Moor are being forced to wear dust masks (main) after it emerged the particles in the air are dangerous due to the continuing fire. Dramatic photographs show the devastated landscape left behind after a four-day inferno has wreaked havoc on Saddleworth Moor. The British Army will now assist the fire service to tackle the four-mile belt of fire which has raged across the popular beauty spot. A major incident was declared this morning as the blaze worsened. Around 34 houses were evacuated while 70 firefighters fought the blaze. This afternoon photographs taken by a drone show how parts of the vast area have now been extinguished (shown main and bottom left), leaving behind scorched earth.
