New from the Met Office - 'Weather Patterns' allows you to watch the weather patterns evolve over the next 48 hours and see how the jet stream influences high and low pressure and what this means for the UK's weather. The screen is split into four panels:- - The top left shows isobars and weather fronts. - On the bottom left you'll find the wind and air temperature at the surface. - The bottom right shows the jet stream and the temperature at 5000 feet above the ground. - On the top right you'll see how all of this impacts the cloud, rain and snow over the UK. During the next 48 hours, the jet stream diverges into two paths - one to the north and one to the south of the UK. This unusual pattern keeps high pressure to the north of Scotland and low pressure to the southwest of England. Easterly winds bring a lot of cloud to many areas but there will be some sunshine to the north and northwest. Meanwhile, a branch of the jet stream close to southwest England will bring increasingly unsettled weather to the far south during Friday night and Saturday with heavy rain in places. The very latest weather warnings and forecasts can be found at www.metoffice.gov.uk.
