On Saturday afternoon, 62 shacks burnt down in Plastic View informal settlement adjacent to the NG Gemeente in Moreletapark, Pretoria. According to the churches’ coordinator for community development, Retha Erasmus over 300 people were lost everything that they owned. A call-to-action was sent out to the community to assist in any way that they can. ‘Our church organised this relief effort is because those are our neighbours, they are people just as we are.’ Erasmus told News24. ‘We know the people in that community, we have projects running there so those are people we care about.’ Added Erasmus. Besides the mountains of food and clothing items, a significant amount of building materials has also been donated. By Sunday morning members of the Plastic View community had already started rebuilding their shacks again. WATCH. Subscribe to News24: https://www.youtube.com/user/News24Video
