I learned this song from Soodlum's Irish Ballads, so I did not think it refers to Boston Massachusetts! However, there is a Charlestown which is a part of the City of Boston Massachusetts, so it could be one in the same, and if it is I dedicate it to Don (ddino) of that great city. A warning to young men not to go astray, as the punishment was to be conscripted to the army for twenty-one years provided you were not killed in the meantime.
