This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Everything is happening, all at once, we live in a great simultaneous. At the exact same moment that you are reading this an innumerable amount of incredible things are happening all over the world. But what does the simultaneity of the lives of others have to do with our own lives? My talk will explore such a question. Often we are bored or unhappy with our own lives, but if we take a moment to zoom out, and think of how our lives are intertwined with those around us, in ways that we may never realize, it becomes readily apparent that everything matters, that everything is connected. We as a culture are obsessed with the notion of escaping our personal realities by experiencing those of others, via books, television, movies, and most importantly stories, yet we rarely take the time to think of how we effect these other realities. I will be creating back-drop music, using my bass guitar and effect pedals, and telling a story that will follow 7 characters. This story will illustrate how truly crazy, for a lack of a better word, the world is in regards to what is going on at any given moment. By doing this I hope to make people think about their place in the universe, and the effect that we have on those around us, whether we realize it or not. Through thinking about this, we may come to appreciate our own lives more, as we see how they intertwine with others simultaneously.

Isaiah always had a passion for marine science, music, and creative writing. He
is the bass player in a number of UMaine music groups and works at the Aquaculture Research Center. He also enjoys integrating creative writing and music by composing spoken word pieces over repeated sections of music called 'loops', played using my bass guitar and a complicated effects board.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
