John Carlin co-anchors the 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts on WSLS-10. He reports regularly from the field with a strong emphasis on WSLS-10's Virginia Crossroads series, which airs on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. He is a former instructor of broadcast writing in Virginia Tech's Department of Communication. In "Breaking News," John will share how news has changed and how the boundary between journalism and everyday life is shrinking.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
