(7 Oct 2018) The Israeli military says a Palestinian attacker has opened fire inside a joint Israeli-Palestinian industrial zone in the West Bank, killing two Israelis and seriously wounding a third before fleeing the scene. "This is a very severe terror attack", said Israel's prime minister on Sunday, who denounced the attack and said the perpetrator would be brought to justice. Benjamin Netanyahu was speaking at his cabinet weekly meeting in Jerusalem. Military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus says a 23-year-old from a nearby village carried out a "terror attack." But other workers in the industrial zone say the attack was carried out by a disgruntled employee and was not politically motivated. Since 2015, Palestinians have killed over 50 Israelis, two visiting Americans and a British tourist in stabbings, shootings and car-ramming attacks. Israeli forces killed over 260 Palestinians in that period, of which Israel says most were attackers. Netanyahu also said that he agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet soon. Russia has delivered to Syria four S-300 launchers along with radars and support vehicles. It will take three months to train Syrian personnel to operate the system. Russia announced last month that it would provide the S-300s after the downing of a Russian plane by Syrian forces responding to an Israeli air strike, a friendly fire incident that stoked regional tensions. Russia laid the blame on Israel, saying Israeli fighter jets were hiding behind the Russian plane, an account denied by the Israeli military. Russia is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, and its intervention in the civil war, beginning in 2015, turned the tide in his favour.
