A big rig catches fire near a bridge south of Gilroy

CalTrans worked to check the structural integrity of a bridge at an area known as Sergeant's Crossing. The big rig fire sparked a vegetation fire that crews were able to contain around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Northbound and southbound highway 101 had to be shut down in both directions causing traffic to back up for hours.
