THE BALISONG

The word balisong may have come from the words baling sungay or broken horn. The bite handles of the blade is either made from the horns of a water buffalo or as I was told by a balisong maker that the best ones are from sungay ng usa or deer horns. Balisong is also a place or a town in Taal, Batangas called Barangay Balisong. This where one could by very well crafted butterfly knives.

Their are numerous opening and closing techniques that were developed in the practice of this knife. Some are simple and others are merely for stunts. These things should not be confused. If one is to ask a Batangeño as to how it is used for defending oneself with it. "Open it stealthily, insert it quickly then close immediately."
