I built more storage shelves for my off grid wood shop. Now that I have a lumber mill I am going to need more storage space and have to clear up the area to cure wood as I cut it.

I recently got a nice lumber mill and plan to cut my own lumber for projects here on the homestead. This is part of becoming self sufficient - using materials on our own land.

So I have to clean up behind the wood shop and get all my lumber neatly stacked so I can reach what I need more easily. Previously I had all my wood just stacked up on pallets under a roof. But it was impossible to sort through to find what I wanted.

Now I am putting in shelves to store the wood neatly.

I had already started the shelves on one side of the storage area but had to finish it.

I put in the final two sets of shelves and got most of my lumber off the ground and neatly in place. But I still have some flat boards and plywood to put away. I emptied the garage to clear out space. There was some wood in there when we got the property and it had to come out.

But rain was in the forecast so I had to work fast.

I took the halves of the pallets that I had cut for the shelves and put them down. Then I took the runners from other pallets which I had saved and put them in place for the framing. I used the old nails from the runners to nail them in place.

I then cut the ends of the wood to be 16 inches wide.

Then I stacked my plywood and flat boards on my new storage platform.

I also set up some shelves to hold more wood. I plan to extend the roof over the rest of the wood shop to cover more lumber out there.

The shelving really looks good out there now. The view from the road is awesome.
