A beautiful day at the end of January for a hike in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. I started at the Florence Nature Preserve in Gerton, a small town in the Upper Hickory Nut Gorge. I utilized the FNP Access Trail and Blue Trail to reach the gravel Little Pisgah Rd which gradually climbs to the grassy summit adorned with antennas. From Little Pisgah Mountain I got almost 360 degree views - includes the Great Craggies, Black Mts, Mackey Mt, Linville Gorge, Hickory Nut Gorge, Bearwallow Mt, and Mt. Pisgah. I took the Red Trail back through the preserve to check out Rattlesnake Knob, which was disappointing, and a cool slot cascade near the trail. It was some of the best winter weather and views I've experienced in a while.
