I am catching up on a backlog of requests. This one came from my friend in Ireland, Eddie, (edd1ejc). He has introduced me to a Scottish Song based on a Robert Burns poem. The late great Luke Kelly sang it and it is on his version I have based my rendition. However I have taken the liberty of singing both the lyrics of the song Luke sang and also after a short instrumental passage, I have sung the lyrics from the Burns poem to the same tune. This accounts for the different chorus in the second part.
In the chorus of the first part, I believe that the word 'leeze' means 'lay' and the word 'pow' is a dialect word for 'brow' or 'forehead', so 'Leeze me on your curly pow' would translate as let me lay my head on your curly brow'.
The following information comes from one of my favourite sites, The Contemplator's Folk Music Site:
The best known words and music to Dainty Davie are by Robert Burns. They appear in his collection of bawdy tunes, Merry Muses of Caledonia.
According to Burns the words were based on a true incident that occurred during the time of the Covenanters. Pursued by dragoons, Rev. Mr. David Williamson (died 1706), took refuge in the home of Lady Cherrytree, who hid him by putting him in bed beside her daughter. Her daughter subsequently became pregnant. Digital Tradition (Mirror of the original). information says they were later married.

I have just produced an eBook containing 50 songs (first volume hopefully provided it sells) which can be seen and purchased by following this link:
