The exhibition hosted by Brukenthal National Museum brings together four Romanian artists: Costin Chioreanu, Claudiu Doncuțiu, Andrei Szabo and Constantin Scărlătescu. Having different, unique styles and using a variety of techniques for artistic expression, the four artists are drawn together by the ARTmania Festival, an event designed as a platform dedicated to the promotion of all forms of artistic expression inspired by rock culture, which became the main regional promoter of contemporary music projects.
ARTmania is not only about music but about the enticement of the subcultures. Art has always played an identifying role; the materials accompanying the discographic releases generally have elaborate graphic designs that manage to translate in a visual manner the musical expression. We're talking about posters, album covers, prints on clothing articles, or even artwork that genre adherents prefer.
Longevity and the strong spirit of individualization give life to a culture, developing it and, as it grows eventually, it will divide into subcultures. In our case, we are talking about decades in which styles and genres have merged. They have become systems in a body of identity. A body that breathes and grows constantly fueled by human nature and its complexity, a body that creates and recreates worlds through freedom of expression and creative thinking.
Focused on surrealism, magical or fantastic realism, with nuances exploring the aesthetics of ugliness and macabre fantasy, the art of rock culture does not go unnoticed. This is why, not by chance, the project “The Anatomy of Darkness. A site specific journey” integrates into the permanent exhibition “Gothic: Gothic Revival Experience vs. Enlightenment Pattern” set up in the basement of Brukenthal Palace, a space that is suitable to suggest the atmosphere the dramatic, bringing a note of authenticity that is hard to reproduce in other environments.
The exhibition concept is based on the fact that solitude, macabre, terror and social anarchy are not contemporary inventions but themes that have come to life as a result of historical facts.

On Friday, July 27, at 4:00 pm, we invite you to a complex experience that adjoins the introspective journey into the labyrinth and the escape from or to underground.
