Nearly two years after Nashville's devastating flood, one family is finally going home. A mudslide and high water ruined the house on Lewis street, but now those are just bad memories. It is a rare occasion when something old becomes new again, but a 102 year home has been given a second chance. In May 2010 the heavy rain caused a mudslide. It knocked out the home's back wall and flooded the interior."I didn't know how they were going to get the house fixed. I didn't have the money. I didn't know what I was going to do," says resident Shawanna Norman.Shawanna Norman lives in the house, but it belongs to her 90 year old grandmother, Laura Norman. After two years of living in hotels and apartments, they're finally home.Habitat for Humanity's ReConstruct program worked to make the home as good as new."You hand them these keys, you can tell she's back home, you can tell it's really starting to sink in...I'm back home this is my house, I can move back in. You can almost feel the shiver," says Eric Helm with Habitat. Shawanna Norman and her grandmother said it many times today. They feel they've been blessed. "They're strangers to us, they don't really know us, and they took time out to actually help us," says Shawanna. The Norman's have lived in the home for generations, and thanks to the hard work of Habitat, they now have a future hear too."It's a joy that I really can't explain because it's all I've ever wanted is for her to be able to live comfortably, because she's 90 years old, in her home and the home that she knows," says Shawanna. That why's this old house has new life, both in the construction that holds it together, and for the Norman's who will live inside."Thank you god bless you, and you've been a blessing to us," says Shawanna Norman. The flood and mudslide damage at the Norman home was estimated to be around $62,000. We're told FEMA had given the family $1,300.For news updates follow John Dunn on twitter @WZTVJohnDunn _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/foxnashville/ WZTV on Twitter: https://twitter.com/FOXNashville Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCouaZqnOJay2Lacj8fomO3Q/?sub_confirmation=1 Daily News Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0NoehDI3QdbEPqmgxbSwBNiScxUXS0PR For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
