NOTE: The Astorites was one of label names of Fred Rich’s Dance Orchestra, which during the 1920s was contracted for some time at the famous Astor Hotel in New York (that’s where the nick was taken from). Fred Rich (Fryderyk Efrem Rich, born 1898 in Warsaw, Poland – d.  1956 min California, USA) was a Polish-born American pianist, bandleader and composer who was active from the 1920s to the 1950s. Among the musicians in his band were the Dorsey Brothers, Joe Venuti, Bunny Berigan, and Benny Goodman. In the early 1930s, Elmer Feldkamp was one of his vocalists. Most of Rich's records are typical dance fare of the era. However, between 1929 and 1931, many of his recordings are flavoured with true hot jazz arrangements, with notable solos by Bunny Berigan, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Joe Venuti or Eddie Lang. In 1945, Rich was badly injured when he suffered a fall and he got partial paralysis. Despite this, he continued to lead studio bands into the 1950s. Fred Rich died in age of 58 in California, after a long illness.
