In Germany,unemployment rates among migrants are significantly higher than in the rest of population. The global financial crisis is further exacerbating this problem. The situation for young people of Turkish origin is particularly bad. In Germany's urban centers up to 75 percent have no school leaving certificate or formal training. In Hamburg,a Mosque-based initiative has been launched to remedy this situation. Careers advisers speak after Friday prayers,trying to persuade their Turkish congregation how important it is to learn a trade or train for a profession.
