The original stated purpose of this 1974 film was to "show the engineer as a human being."

This film presents a view of engineers at work at Bell Telephone Laboratories. It shows engineering people working at various activities in the laboratory environment. The engineer is portrayed as a human being - highly motivated and creative, who cares deeply about his work, family, and the world in which he lives. Interestingly, the film only portrays male engineers - a point which was then corrected the next year, when AT&T made a film called A World for Women in Engineering.

Produced by Guggenheim Productions
Music by jazz musician Chico Hamilton
