MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers shrugged off a sluggish start on Tuesday evening against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, erasing a 12-2 early deficit behind a series of runs, before later running away with a 66-44 win.

Markel Crawford scored a game-high 19 points, making 8-of-13 shots from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Crawford also added three rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Dedric Lawson became the program's 51st member of the 1,000-point club after a first-half basket with 2:08 to play in the first half. In all, he scored 14 points to push him to 1,009 career points and now tied for 48th in the school's career scoring record book. He also pulled down 11 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the season and 33rd in his career, which ties him for sixth-most career double-doubles in Memphis history. He also added three steals, two blocked shots, and two assists in the Memphis win.

K.J. Lawson scored a dozen points while pulling down four rebounds, adding two assists and blocking two shots.

The team's 44 points allowed are tied for the fewest in a game since the opening game of the 2010-11 season in which the Tigers topped Centenary 104-40, and tied with the 44 allowed at Houston on January 11, 2015.

Tulsa (12-11, 6-5 American Athletic Conference) came out firing out of the gate, scoring the first eight points of the game and leading by as many as 10 at 12-2. The Golden Hurricane led by seven at 18-11 halfway through the first half before the Tiger offense started to make up the ground. 

Memphis (18-7, 8-4 American Conference) reeled off eight straight points starting with a Keon Clergeot long range shot, followed by a K.J. Lawson three-pointer, and then a Christian Kesse mid-range jumper gave Memphis its first lead of the game at 19-18 with 8:38 to play in the opening period.

The Golden Hurricane answered back with a 7-0 run, which was countered by a Memphis 13-0 run, as the Tigers pushed ahead by as many as seven in the first half, and took a five-point, 32-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In all, over the last 10 minutes of the first half, Memphis out-scored Tulsa 21-9, and hit 8-of-12 shots from the field, and forced five Golden Hurricane turnovers.

Memphis never trailed in the second half, and used an 11-0 run to turn a three-point advantage into a 14-point lead, extending the margin to as many as 24 late in the game, before settling at 22 at the 66-44 final score.

Over the final 20 minutes the Tigers held Tulsa to just five made field goals and 17 total points, the fewest second-half points since Memphis held East Carolina to 15 points on February 22, 2012.
