Demand for homegrown Christmas trees has doubled in Switzerland over the past ten years, partly due to consumers' concerns about importing non-organic trees over long distances. In Bern you can cut down your own tree at one of a number of plantations owned by the 'Buergergemeinschaft', an association of old Bernese families.
