Preparing for Hurricane Harvey

We heard that a tropical storm was probably going to hit the Texas coast sometime around Friday August 26th and that it could be as bad or worse than tropical storm Allison that hit the Houston area in 2001. The forecast was that the storm could reach a cat 1 by landfall. The weathermen mentioned 25-30 inches of rain with an outside chance of 50 inches. Our district started school on Tuesday and by Thursday Harvey had strengthened to a CAT 3 STORM! The superintendent decided to cancel school on Friday to prepare for the storm and Monday just in case it was bad. My husband is a firefighter and was working on Thursday for a friend and his normal shift was Friday/ Saturday and he was going to work overtime on Sunday. With the storm coming I knew he'd probably be at work until Monday so that would be five days gone but we've been without him that long before- it just meant that the boys and I had to ride out the storm together. We were kind of excited to see a storm and miss school until it became a CAT 4 STORM! We didn't know what that would look like or what that would mean but we were going to find out!
