DAYTON -- Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year. As you pass through crowded airports or travel stops, staying healthy should be top of mind. There are a couple of things you can do to ward off the flu when traveling. Vaccination is the best protection from the flu. It's recommended that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine. Be sure to wash your hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. When soap and water aren't available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer instead. And if you're sitting next to someone who appears to be ill... "The best thing you can do is to get away if you possibly can. If that's not an option, you might offer the person a tissue, offer the person a hand sanitizer and politely say, I see you're not feeling well, can I help in any way?" said Dr. Susan Rehm with the Cleveland Clinic. If you think you have the flu, protect others by staying home and be sure to cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow to reduce the spread of germs.
