Aviation is a major emitter of greenhouse gases. The air transport industry accounts for 2% of global emissions and will grow massively in the coming years. By 2020, emissions from this sector should be around 70% higher than they were in 2005. And, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) they could grow by a further 300-700% by 2050, accounting for 22% of global GHG emissions.
