One natural disaster after another is depleting the Red Cross of money to help desperate victims.

The agency that helps the helpless said it has no money left to fund Midwestern states battled by floods, so it is taking out loans, KMBC's Maria Antonia reported.

In May, the Red Cross helped Gladstone residents when a tornado tore through their Northland neighborhood.

"I was a mess the whole time -- I cried for four days straight. And (the Red Cross workers were), like, 'It's going to be all right. It's going to be all right.' They were just wonderful," said Deanna Claussen, whose family was caught in the middle of the Gladstone tornado. "The Red Cross put us up. If it wasn't for them, who knows? I'm extremely grateful, extremely grateful."

The Kansas City Red Cross office has sent 23 people to areas facing flooding and tornado emergencies.

Charity organizers said they believe donations are down because of the economy and gas prices.
