This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Design has the ability to change a place through information and creativity. In a time when we have much more available information than ever before, architects, engineers, and developers are missing their opportunity to use that data as a creative outlet. As our cities continue to grow larger every year, how can data be used to solve design problems in urban neighborhoods?

Erik Hatch is an Architect living in Seattle, Washington. His current focus is urban mixed-use residential design in Seattle and in cities throughout Western Washington. Erik was the winner of the 2013 “One Big Idea” competition, an effort to enhance Downtown Reno’s walkability through technology and design. He is a graduate of Reno High School and has his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
