This is a cartoon of me a friend of mine did. I told her I'd use it as my icon. ******************************** And I'm gonna use the rest of this space to post my detailed explanation of how I judge amv contests. (no point in wasting the space) SCORING SYSTEM 20 points Total 5 points Originality 5 points Timing/Effects 5 points Visual Flow 5 points Song Correlation 3 points Bonus Max Score - 23/20 THEME Qualified - Your AMV has something to do with the contest theme Disqualified - Your AMV has nothing to do with the theme Bonus: --- Creative use of the theme (+1) --- Multiple meanings of the theme (+1) You also will be disqualified if you steal someone else's AMV or don't include Song/Anime credits in your description/tags. ----bonus hint for anyone who actually reads this: I qualify EVERY amv that has an explanation of why I should qualify it in the description. And really ah..... "creative" excuses will get a bonus point. The theme is basically a filter to weed out the editors to lazy to read the rules. ORIGINALITY - How many other AMVs on YouTube have used the same Anime/Song combo (and I do check) 5 points - No one else has used that song before 4 points - No one else has paired that Anime and Song together 3 points - No one else has paired that person and Song together 2 points - Fewer than 12 similar AMVs 1 point - 12 or more similar AMVs 0 points - You did a fight scene to "Eye of the Tiger" (more than 215 AMVs) Bonus:You do a concept I've never seen before = +1 You bore me = -1 I only count the AMVs posted on YouTube before you posted yours. If you are one of the ones that make a new AMV for each contest do yourself a favor and check how many other AMVs use that song/anime combo. TIMING/EFFECTS - Don't worry I grade Windows Movie Maker and Vegas separately. 5 points - Perfect Timing and dazzling Effects you don't notice 'till 2x 4 points - Almost perfect Timing OR distracting Effects 3 points - Almost perfect Timing AND distracting Effects 2 points - Obvious Timing OR Effect mistakes 1 point - Obvious Timing AND Effect mistakes 0 points - I fall asleep / I get a get a headache Ok, this is an example of a 5/5 for timing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5FD2ke2YDc VISUAL FLOW 5 points - I forget to blink 4 points - Must watch twice 3 points - Interesting 2 points - Confusing but Interesting 1 points - Confusing 0 points - I get distracted by Wet Paint Bonus: I get offended = -1 (or more(hey, its my contest!)) Example - Visual Flow is basically how interesting the clips are with the sound turned off, and how well they tell a story without using the lyrics. (Note - this is an AMV to an amine I've never seen, but I can still follow the storyline) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O9dZF2q6R8 SONG CORRELATION - How well the Song and/or Audio work with your clips to produce emotion 5 points - Chills down my Spine/Hysterical Laughing/I cry 4 points - Chills down my neck/Giggling/I tear up 3 points - I smile/I feel sad 2 points - slight emotional tug 1 point - I figure out what you were trying to do 0 points - You're so pathetic I cry Bonus: I get too freaked out to keep watching = You make the "Watch At Your Own Risk List" (I don't like being scared) Example - Again, I have never seen this anime and I don't know the language the song uses. This shows how powerful the right combination of music and clips can be even without the help of the lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9197GTl1ASg PRIZES: Winners - 1st, 2ed, 3rd..... Honorable Mention "Worth Watching" List "Watch At Your Own Risk" List Winners - The winners are the top scoring AMVs, and usually score between 19-16 points. (highest so far was a 21/20) I have as many places as there are AMVs that score in that range, and if no one scores that high there are no winners. ( like what happened with Contest# 9) Honorable Mention - Basically its a "Judges Choice" award. Previous winners have been AMVs that were really good but scored a 0/5 on originality, and mediocre AMVs that did better than the winners in one category. "Worth Watching" List - When I first started judging I noticed that the AMVs tended to cluster in 3 groups - nearly perfect, good with some big mistakes, really bad. The "Worth Watching List" is the middle group and is basically a list of amv makers with talent but not much experience. Several people that made the list in one contest have placed (and even won) later contests. "Watch At Your Own Risk" List I get scared easily. This is a special consolation prize/contest for any AMV I couldn't finish judging 'cuse I got to scared to finish WATCHING. So far three AMVs have won this, ah....... "prize". http://youtube.com/watch?v=gNmxrm7XEJ0 (2nd and 3rd amvs have been removed)
