The hedgerow in winter. I explore the apparently dormant and sleeping hedgerows of the UK Midlands. Why are they here, what are they for? In winter, a time of gales and cold and snow, the hedgerow provides that essential to survival - shelter. I force my way deep into a blackthorn thicket to replace batteries in a camera trap watching over a badger sett.

Hedgerows through the year. Filmed in 4K. Follow me through the year as I explore the English hedgerow from winter dormancy through to spring blossom, through summer's ease to autumn's mellow fruitfulness. The hedgerow, often ignored, but in my opinion the defining feature of the lowland English landscape. Criss-crossing the UK there are tens of thousands of miles of hedgerow - highways for wildlife and amazing ecosystems that stretch back into history eight hundred years or more. The hedgerow, the stitching that holds together the patchwork that is English countryside.
