I discovered this application on accident. I am using the waste byproduct(s) from making my own nitric acid in unexpected ways. The plating is extremely durable and I am able to polish the copper to a mirror finish. It doesn't come off the steel while using the Dremel steel brush and other polishing bits which completely surprised me.
