The year 2018 saw a new coalition government rising in Nelson Mandela Bay after a DA-led coalition government was relegated to the opposition benches. On the 27th of August the DA-led coalition, made up of Cope and ACDP was ousted through a motion of no-confidence against former mayor Athol Trollip, speaker Jonathan Lawack and Chief Whip Werner Senekal. A new coalition government made up of ANC, UDM, AIC and United Front with the EFF as a voting partner was formed.
