First trip of 2017 was slow. Billy and I were looking for big fish using large chunks of cut skipjack herring. We tried several spots with no success and decided last minute to fish near barges. It paid off. We loaded up pretty quickly with a solid 10-12 lb blue catfish, followed by a dink fish around 5 lbs. Barges can be great cover for catfish, especially during the summer months and in the late evening hours.

Tackle: Medium heavy 8' American Spirit Nite Stick rod with an Okuma Classic XT CLX-300 L baitcaster levelwind reel spooled with 50 lb monofilament line with an 80 lb monofilament leader and Billy's Battle Cat rod with an Okuma Citrix reel spooled with 50 lb braided line with a three way rig with a circle hook
