Named by The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation as an 'Emerging International Talent', described by News Limited as 'One of Australia's brightest thinkers on the perpetual challenge of urban planning' and shortlisted as a 2012 TED Global Fellow, Rachel Smith is one of Australia's leading active/sustainable transport planners and urban thinkers. Rachel is a Principal Transport Planner at AECOM, part of the international mobile think-tank the BMW Guggenheim Lab, co-creator of Brisbane's Lazy Sunday Cycle and a blogger at This Big City in London. Rachel shares her idea on how we can improve transportation in a sustainably conscious way. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
