A short while back my Dad gave me one of my Grandfathers fiddles. My Grandfather died shortly after I turned 8 years old so unfortunately, my memories of him are very scarce. From talking with my Aunts and my Dad, he was quite a musician. He played fiddle very well and played guitar Dobro style or similar to the way one would play a steel guitar. I can't recall ever hearing him play and that makes me sad now. In the discussions with my Dad, he mentioned that he could still recall My Grandfather playing this song. I recently came across the music to this song. Although I never heard my Grandfather play, this song somehow allows me to get that feeling that we liked the same kind of music. So Grandpa,(and Dad) this ones for you. This was written by Gene Autry and Jimmy Long in 1932. It was Gene Autry's first recording. He went on to write more than 200 songs. He once stated about himself, "I'm not a good actor, a good rider or a particularly good singer, but people seem to like what I do, so I'll keep on doing it as long as they want". To me, those are good words to live by. Thanks for listening...
