LAKEWOOD - Medical marijuana advocates say they've about had it with the Obama administration. On Thursday, a group of Coloradans decided it was time to become a little more vocal about it. In front of the president's Colorado campaign headquarters in Lakewood, they outlined their plans for what they're calling the Patient Voter Project. "We really want voters to know that the Obama administration has had a turn around on [medical marijuana], and so we really hope they'll get active and really protect Coloradan's rights to regulate this industry," Denver attorney Brian Vicente, an active voice in the state's pro-medical marijuana community, said. This all comes at a time when the U.S. Attorney's office in Colorado is moving closer to actively seizing properties housing medical marijuana businesses that are deemed to be too close to local schools. In January, U.S. Attorney John Walsh sent letters to 23 medical marijuana dispensaries formally notifying them that his office would take action to "seize and forfeit" their property if they did not stop selling marijuana by Feb. 25. In an interview with 9NEWS, Walsh said his office is extremely serious about the notices and balked at the idea that it was an empty threat. Similar actions have already taken place in California. Reached by phone on Thursday, the local headquarters for the Obama campaign decided not to comment on the Patient Voter Project.
