This Lactic peel tutorial will show you how to apply a chemical peel to skin types 3, 4, 5, & 6 ( People of Color) I'm a Master Esthetician in the state of VA, and, I have extensive knowledge about applying chemical peels to clients of color. I was very fortunate to go to a school that had multicultured  Instructors, who knew how to apply chemical peels to all skin types.

 Most esthetician schools claim that they are going to teach you about all the skin types, but, I have graduated from two schools, one for the basic esthetician course, and then, I took the Master Esthetician course to learn about chemical peels and the advanced facial machines. My first school (spectrum Beauty school) in northern VA was the worst cosmetology school ever!!! I basically thought myself and, I took the state board 3 weeks before, I graduated because I had taken all the school exams, so, I was just sitting in that piece of Sh*t  classroom for 3 weeks learning nothing.  Just because your Instructors are all black that really doesn't mean that they know about skin types 3, 4, 5 & 6, because my basic esthetician school was instructed by all Afro-American staff who were not even estheticians, the director of the beauty school had her not so bright daughter teaching 3-4 different classes at once, nepotism is a mother F-er. 

So the best teacher for me was Youtube, it showed me the good, the bad & the ugly, not everything on youtube was the gospel, but it was far better then my basic school. So if you have or are attending a school that is predominantly skin type 1 & 2 don't let that school deter you from learning how to treat skin types 3, 4, 5, & 6 with chemical peels, ask around, do your research, go to beauty shows, and the internet is full of insightful information on everything, and looking into a good Master Esthetician school that knows about the skin types & always keep up with your continuing education classes. The biggest tip that, I can give to you is please before you do a chemical peel, do a patch test of the chemical peel behind the client's ear, leave the peel on for only 2-3 minutes and blot off with cold water, send them home and ask them to come back and see you in 48-72 hours. Once the client has returned, check the patch test to see if the client's skin color is normal, you should not see any redness or irritation. If the clients skin is clear or normal looking like the rest of their skin color, then you have a better understanding of how that client's skin will react to the peel, but still use caution because clients lie about what they put on their face, the medication that they are on, the 8-10 hours of sun tanning, so analyze the client's skin before any treatment, and have them sign off on your client medical history intake forms, this will help you with legal and state law compliance.
