The turn of the new year has been marked by the deaths of three Colorado sheriff’s deputies, shot and killed in the line of duty. On average, Colorado law enforcement goes close to a year without an officer shot and killed in the line of duty. There may be two close together, but not three. It’s been 100 years since the last time three officers were killed in separate shootings less than a month apart. Editor's note: This video state that, since 1869, 176 officers have been killed by gunshots. That number includes a K9 officer.
