Tobacco Stencil | A History of Kentucky in 25 Objects | KET

This tobacco stencil, dated circa 1918, would have been used to indicate which company owned the tobacco being aged inside the barrel. After purchased at an auction barn, companies would age the tobacco for three years in a warehouse. Up until 1920, Kentucky was the biggest producer of tobacco, and it is still the largest producer of "dark-fired" tobacco.
