Discover what it’s like to work at steel manufacturer today in this talk by Jack Lucid, who shares the history and progression of Disston Precision in Philadelphia. Founded in 1840, Disston was the site of modern saw making’s most notable improvements and once one of the nation’s largest industrial companies. The company traces its roots back to Keystone Saw Works and Henry Disston & Sons, Inc. of Tacony. Today, Disston makes thin, sharp, hard steel products such as die cutting plates and friction saws up to 8 feet in diameter. Armed with a double major in History and Japanese from Colgate University, Jack Lucid embarked on a fun, challenging and successful 25-year career as an investment banker before landing at Disston Precision, Inc. in Northeast Philadelphia. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
