Bill Miller is the impetus behind the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. He reveals how a call to action inspired a group of dedicated volunteers, to transform an abandoned eyesore into a blooming community treasure.

    

I am a native of Massachusetts by birth and a West Virginian by God’s grace. In college I transferred to WV Wesleyan where I received a degree and my dear wife, Ellie. We have been blessed with 55 years of marriage, four married children and 10 grandchildren. I have other graduate degrees from Marshall University and Duke University.
I have been an ordained United Methodist pastor for 54 years, 37 of them in WV. In 2002 we retired in Lake Lure, NC to refocus on family, faith, fun and volunteerism. That is where the idea of a blooming pedestrian bridge found me.
