We see it all the time in martial arts movies; swordsmen doing all these graceful looking spins as they fight. Martial artists like to make fun of that stuff all the time; after all the time you spend doing all that fancy stuff is time you could be using doing some actual fighting. And most of the time, doing those dance like whirls pretty much gets you dead when up against another swordsman worth his salt.

Sometimes however, a spin isn't unnecessary fluff. Sometimes it just might save your life.

I explain a little more about what makes the technique you saw me do in the last video work. It's not all that easy to just whip out; their are some factors involved that one has to keep in mind. If these factors aren't in place, the move won't work, and you'll still get shish-kabobbed.

Keep in mind that I am no expert, much less any master of the Chinese jian (sword). This is just something that I've noticed in my own studies. Any pointers and observations from experienced martial artists and students of all styles and systems will be very welcome.
